Summer camp gives physically disabled kids a chance to unwind, try different activities and meet new friends outside of their day-to-day lives. Below are a few options for accessible camp that offer adaptive programs designed for kids with physical disabilities.
National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) Summer Woods Camp 1
The adventure sampler is designed to give para athletes an opportunity to experience new and exciting adventures outdoors. During this accessible camp clinic, athletes will explore the Front Range through a variety of outdoor activities including: outdoor rock climbing, white water paddling, flat water paddling, parkour, and sailing.
Camp Awakening
Camp Awakening offers summer camp programs for boys and girls with physical disabilities, ages 9-18 years. Camp Awakening campers to increase independence, make lasting friendships, develop confidence and accomplish things they never thought possible at this accessible camp.
National Ability Center Camps
Year-round day and overnight, accessible camp offer youth with physical disabilities recreational, competitive and team-building programs in skiing, adventure learning, aquatics, water sports, archery, cycling, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sled hockey, climbing and equestrian sports.
Moran Camp Xtreme
Changing “impossible” into possible for kids dependent upon a wheelchair for mobility. Young people with physical disabilities, such as spinal cord injury, spina bifida, lower extremity amputations, and other spinal disorders, are invited to attend Moran Camp Xtreme — an accessible camp.
Camp No Limit
Camp No Limits is the only accessible camp for young people with limb loss & their families, creating a network of support for all the campers. All activities incorporate family members as well, with specific group sessions for siblings & parents when appropriate to address the needs of families living with individuals with limb loss.
Texas Lions Camp
Texas Lions Camp is a summer camp dedicated to serving children from the state of Texas with physical disabilities between the ages of seven and sixteen. This accessible camp is a modern facility located on over 500 acres in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Texas Lions Camp offers campers a chance to try new activities and create long lasting friendships while developing greater self-esteem, independence, and most of all, they get to have fun.
Ironwood Springs’ National Wheelchair Sports Camp
Ironwood invites youth and adults with physical challenges of all levels to participate in a variety of sport-themed activities in a supportive and inspiring team environment. Campers are challenged to look beyond their disability, while being coached and mentored by world-class Paralympic athletes at this accessible camp .
Bay Cliff Health Camp
Bay Cliff’s priority program is a seven-week, summer therapy, accessible camp session serving children with orthopedic, speech, hearing, and vision disabilities. The children work towards goals of increased independence and living a fuller life.
Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp
The Eastern Nebraska Wheelchair Athletic Association, in cooperation with Alegent Health Immanuel Rehabilitation Center and the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation offers a free sports and recreation camp during the summer for disabled children ages 6-18. This accessible camp provides a good introduction to wheelchair sports. Instruction includes archery, aquatics, basketball, body conditioning, tennis, track and field, basketball, softball, and more. Recreation and leisure activities may include photography, pottery, creative dramatics, and ceramics.
Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp
Run by the Amputee Coalition, this is a 5-day traditional summer camp experience for children ages 10-17 who have lost arms and/or legs or who were born with limb differences. It is an accessible camp.
Camp No Limb-itations
For kids 7-16, Camp No Limb-itations is our way of making sure kids with limb deficiencies have a chance to get outside, play, learn—and make friends with kids who understand what they’re going through. This is an accessible camp.
Camp PossAbility – For Young Adults
Camp PossAbility exists to give young adults with physical disabilities a week to empower the mind, body, and spirit with social enrichment, outdoor adventure, and emotional support during summer camp. This one-week, accessible camp is designed specifically for young adults ages 18 to 35 who have a physical disability that requires use of a wheelchair.
